Mookane Coal Mine
Mookane Coal (Pty) Ltd from Botswana is the EPCM contractor for Maatla Resources (Pty) Ltd, the developer of the Mookane Coal Mine project situated near the village of Mookane in the Central District of Botswana. The project is within the well-known Mmamabula coal field with neighbors such as Jindal Africa.
MRD have been in talks with Mookane Coal (Pty) Ltd from the onset of the project and have been awarded the design, construction, and commissioning of a 360 tph coal DMS processing plant with ongoing operational and maintenance support to Mookane Coal (Pty) Ltd.
The site is located within ±140km from Gaborone and within 6km of the Mookane village. The Mookane village is ± 20km from the A1 Road and rail corridor. The recently completed Dibete – Martinsdrift tarred road that runs adjacent to the Tuli block farms and trough Mookane and Mmaphashalala villages will allow tarred road access to the Mookane Coal Mine.
The state-of-the-art processing plant would be capable of producing various washed size fractions for the regional domestic market.
Site construction activities for the plant commenced in July 2023 and the planned operational date would be in July 2024.
For the implementation phase of the project, MRD’s high quality and safety standards will be adopted by Mookane Coal (Pty) Ltd and Maatla Resources (Pty) Ltd. All quality management systems, onsite safety procedures and COP’s and legal compliance aspects will form part of MRD’s scope of supply.
